I would say that I am a pretty good writer, but when it comes to designing graphics, that is definitely not in my toolbox. In fact, I would say that I sucked at it.
Nor was it a skill that I wanted to learn.
As the program navigator and marketing specialist at a non-profit that helps entrepreneurs, that skill quickly became part of my job and I panicked until my boss introduced me to Canva.
Canva became a lifesaver for me and helped our marketing and communications look professional. It makes me look like I actually know what I’m doing when it comes to graphic design.
Canva can help You look like a professional Graphic Designer with some practice too!
Q. Why Should I Use Canva?
A. If what I just said didn’t convince you–look at these.
1. I don’t have graphic design skills or any artistic ability. (No, Really!)
I tried graphic design in college and quickly changed my major after I realized that I wasn’t that artistic. Canva has templates that you can change up to make them your own designs by changing the images, text and fonts.
2. Canva is super easy to use.
Even if you don’t use the templates, you can use images they supply or upload, and drag and drop your own images into the design.
3. Design possibilities are endless.
Right now, I primarily use Canva to design Facebook posts, marketing material, and emails. Canva also has designs for Instagram and other social media platforms.
You can make flyers, posters, business cards, infographics, quotes, invitations…the possibilities are really endless. It can even be fun!
4. It’s free!
The free version is great and you don’t necessarily need to upgrade to the paid version, however, the paid version does give you access to more photos, templates and other features that the free version doesn’t offer.
5. Teamwork makes the dream work.
You can share all or just some of your designs with team members or friends through their email or by sending a link, and you control the amount of editing they can do.
Q. Is Canva Right for Me?
A. Let me first point out, users have to be at least 13 years of age, and capable of forming binding contracts.
Canva’s platform is designed for people who aren’t graphic designers and don’t have the funds to hire one because they aren’t cheap.
This platform is also used by educators, students, organizations, entrepreneurs, photographers, and parents.
Really anyone who needs clean and attractive looking material that can be easily designed can use Canva.
Q. What is Canva?
A. Canva is a practical and user-friendly website that allows you to build graphics. There are free and paid options. You can use just the free options, pay for each premium graphic individually or you can upgrade to the Canva Pro version where you pay a monthly fee and have access to millions of photos and different features.
Canva already has sizes and dimensions figured out for you! If you need a Facebook event cover, Canva has it. If you need a Instagram post, they already have the dimensions; birthday invitations, it’s in there.
You can create presentations, posters. You can choose from a wide array of texts, text combos, fonts and filters. It can be fun to use once you can make your designs come to life.
Q. Can I Use Canva on My Mobile Device?
A. Yes, you can use Canva on your phone, laptop or any desktop.
You and your co-workers can edit designs from your couch or you can send your birthday card design to your teenager to make sure she wouldn’t be horrified if her friends received it.
Q. Are There Limitations on My Mobile Device?
A. You have access to all of your designs on your mobile device, but if you have Canva Pro you may not have access to all of those features and settings associated.
Q. Do I get a discount for Being a Non-Profit?
A. Like many other organizations, Canva looks for ways to give back to the community. One of those ways is by offering up to 10 members of an eligible non-profit free access to the Pro version.
Eligible non-profits will have proper 501c3 documentation.
Q. Is Canva Free for Educators?
A. Canva Pro access, plus many add-ons, is free for educators and their students across the globe.
All educators need to do is present their teaching certification and proof that they are employed at a school to gain this valuable tool to use in the classroom.
Q.What Can I Do With the Designs That I Make in Canva?
A. Once you are done creating your design in Canva you can:
- Download it as a PDF or image
- Post directly to a linked Facebook page
- Post directly to Twitter
- Move your design to a designated folder.
- Have Canva print and ship your designs as a poster, flyer, birthday cards or whatever you need.
- Chuck it in the trash and start over ( I have had to do that a time or two)
If you would like to have your work look like a professional designed it without all the hassle or paying a graphic designer to do them for you, Canva is the platform for you.
If for some reason you don’t love it like I do, it’s free right?
Who said you can’t get anything for free???
